Camp Jack Hazard Awarded Grant to Pioneer Character Development with Young Children
Modesto, CA – The American Camp Association® announced that Camp Jack Hazard has received a Character at Camp planning grant for 1 year. Camp Jack Hazard, a well-known residential summer camp near the Sonora Pass, whose offices are in Modesto, is the only residential summer camp in California to receive the prestigious planning grant, which provides funds for Camp Jack Hazard to create a character development program for campers ages 6 to 12 years.
The American Camp Association, which is the accrediting body for summer camps in the United States, recently launched an initiative called “Character at Camp” to strengthen the character development work that happens through summer camps, according to the ACA website. Being a grantee in the American Camp Association’s Character at Camp Grant Program means that Camp Jack Hazard prepared and submitted a grant proposal to pursue character development at camp. Camp Jack Hazard was selected among a large field of competitive grant applications from across the country.
Camp Jack Hazard as a grantee is supported by the American Camp Association with access to character development related continuing education, university level research tools, professional development opportunities with subject matter experts, facilitated collaboration with other grantee camps, and other technical assistance.
"Camp Jack Hazard and the American Camp Association form a partnership that promotes access to quality character development programs," said Jason Poisson, Executive Director, "Being a Character at Camp grantee demonstrates our commitment to quality camp programming."
Camp Jack Hazard was founded in 1924 and is located near the Sonora Pass. The camp is in operation from June through August and offers sessions lasting from 3 nights to 2 weeks. For more information, parents can contact the camp at (209) 965-7254 or visit their website at
