A "Powerful" Win for Camp Jack Hazard

6/14/2014

Camp staff are hard at work preparing for the first session that starts just next week, and they are already noticing a big change: it's quiet.

This season marks the debut of CJH's latest investment: a model year 2011 generator with modern emissions control, fuel economy, and noise reduction technologies.

The difference is striking.  It now takes just 1 gallon of fuel per hour to run camp - about half of what we needed before.  This will save as much as a ton and a half of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

This would not have been possible without generous donations from our supporters.  To everyone who pitched in, helping us save money and reduce our environmental impact, THANK YOU!  Camp supporters helped us raise more than $14,000 to help us go green.  Special thanks are due to Ken Monroe and Holt of California, who went out of their way to help us find the right equipment and offered a generous $5,000 price reduction in support of CJH.

The new generator couldn't be happier in its new home, and we are just as thrilled to host it.

Call To Action: Help Us Go Green

Camp Jack Hazard needs your help.  We have found a way to be better environmental stewards and save money in the years to come, but we need your help to make the investment.  We are looking for $20,000 to  purchase a modern, efficient, generator that is compliant with new air quality regulations.  The good news?  We already have $5,000 pledged!

$15,000 is a lot of money, but we know we can make it.  To put that number in perspective, if everyone who went to Camp Jack Hazard in the last 20 years donates just $2, we'll exceed the target.

Of course, not everyone who went to camp will donate, so please help us with any amount that you are able.  Donate now!

Not convinced?  Check out this video from our Executive Director explaining the project.  Or contact us and ask any questions that you have on your mind.

Please join The Jack and Buena Foundation Board of Directors at Codornices Park in Berkeley on Sunday, May 6th beginning at 4pm. Hang out with fellow alumni, barbeque some dinner, slide down the 40 foot hill slide, and hear the latest news about Camp Jack Hazard. We want to see you! No charge, but BYO whatever. We'll light the barbeque, and the park has a good playground, trails, a creek, and an open grassy lawn to kick a ball around. Hope to see you all there!
