2010 Camper Search
The camp scholarship application period for 2010 is now open! We would like to encourage all friends of the Jack and Buena Foundation to think about any kids who need a camp experience and tell their parents about us. We are hoping to serve families who are unable to afford the entire cost of camp as well as families for whom the camp expense would simply not be possible. If you know someone who should go to camp this year, please send them a link to our application page.
About The Jack and Buena Foundation
The primary goal of the Jack and Buena Foundation is to ensure that Camp Jack Hazard continues providing life-changing experiences to Stanislaus County youths for years to come. We know how much of an impact Camp can have on a child's life, and we want to make this experience accessible to all members of the community.
The YMCA of Stanislaus County which runs Camp Jack Hazard has had major financial struggles, and the camp will only be running half of the sessions that it has traditionally seen. If those sessions cannot be filled, Camp Jack Hazard's financial problems are likely to continue. The current economic downturn has made it a challenge for families to share camp experiences with their children. Our goal for 2009 is to help counter both of these trends and bring as many children to Camp Jack Hazard as we can.
Moving into the future, The Jack and Buena Foundation would like to establish an endowment to ensure the future of Camp Jack Hazard and similar programs in perpetuity. As the world becomes more urban and more industrialized, the few programs that teach children to experience and value the outdoors become more and more precious.
Our organization is founded by alumni of Camp Jack Hazard, and we believe that everyone should have a chance to experience such a wonderful, nurturing environment. Camp Jack Hazard's program is a wonderful mix of character building, team bonding, and adventure. Activities range from a group challenge course to a 3-day backpacking trip in some of the most pristine wilderness in California to a camp dance. The short week-long session has given more than one camper self-confidence, social skills and
giving them friendships that will last a lifetime.
If you have not yet considered sending your children or chilren that you know to Camp Jack Hazard, please visit their website and think about the possibilities.
